Check .lt domain
During the time of the coronavirus pandemic, people began using computers and smart devices significantly more often and it prompted the businesses to move online and create e-shops more rapidly. According to the data of the Internet Service Centre DOMREG at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), during the entire period of the quarantine, from the beginning of March 2020 to the end of May 2021, more than 59 thousand new .lt domain names were created; most of them were created for e-shops.
Create a second-level .lt domain in 2021 June and win one of these prizes: Samsung tablet, hard drive or headphones.
In order to increase the number of .lt second level domains, as every year, a promotional campaign has been announced. The promotion runs throughout May, except for those registrars who have individually opted for the following month.
This year, domain jūrė.lt collected the most votes of the web surfers and won the competition of the most beautiful Lithuanian domain name. The domain burtažodžiai.lt was the second and šatrijosugnis.lt – the third in the competition. The organisers of the competition selected twelve domains which names have specific letters of the Lithuanian alphabet: ą, č, ę, ė, į, š, ų, ū, ž.
The analysis of domain names conducted by the Internet Service Centre DOMREG at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) shows that only 7% or approximately 2 000 out of 28 000 of the registered .lt domain names that could potentially have the equivalents with specific Lithuanian characters are spelled using the letters ė, ą, ę, į, ų, ū, č, š, ž of the Lithuanian alphabet. The remaining 93% of the registered .lt domain names are incorrectly spelled, i.e., written without any diacritical marks – dots, dashes, nasals or carons.
The Internet Service Centre DOMREG at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), the registry of .lt top-level domain, informs that the number of domains has increased to 213 106 in 2020. In comparison to 2019, a 7.1% increase in .lt domain names is recorded. Last year, the Latvian national domain .lv has increased by 3.1 % and the Estonian .ee – by 7.4 %.
