This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Lithuanian national domain since 1992 when the .lt domain was created online at the request of the University of Oslo with the support of the Government of Norway. The first domains mii.lt, ktu.lt, and vu.lt were registered in 1993.
The Internet Service Centre DOMREG at Kaunas University of Technology has organised the promotion game inviting to create .lt domain in 2022 June and win a prize.

This year, kupolė.lt collected the most votes from the web surfers and won the competition of the most beautiful Lithuanian domain name. The domain nebeprisikiškiakopūsteliaujantiesiems.lt was the second and paukštė.lt was the third in the competition. The organisers of the competition selected eleven domains whose names have unique letters of the Lithuanian alphabet: ą, č, ę, ė, į, š, ų, ū, ž.
In order to increase the number of .lt second level domains, as every year, a promotional campaign has been announced. The promotion runs throughout March, except for those registrars who have individually opted for the other month.
The Internet Service Centre at Kaunas University of Technology – the registry of .lt top level domain – warns to be aware of the malicious people who try to persuade the domain holders to register the internet names in other top level domains (.com, .org, .net, etc.), even though it is not necessary.
